THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD.

Attributes of God - The Communicable and Incommunicable Characteristics

God made us in His image (Genesis 1:27), which means He imprinted upon us several of His attributes. Yet, God did not endow humans with all of His characteristics

God made us in His image (Genesis 1:27), which means He imprinted upon us several of His attributes. This sets us apart from the beasts of the field and the birds of the air (Genesis 1:28).

Yet, God did not endow humans with all of His characteristics, hence why man stands at a lower rank than even the angels (Hebrews 2:7).

God shares some attributes with us, but some are  reserved for him alone.

Some of the attributes that God shares with us are:

* Love

* kindness

* Merciful

* Humility

*Long suffering/ Patience

* Slow to anger/ Self Control

*Justice

*Faithfulness

*Peaceful

Etc...

And these are some of the attributes we don't share with him.

* OMNISCIENT= The all knowing God, he is the master of knowledge, he knows the past the present and the future, and he can decide to reveal to his servants whatever he pleases.

Psalms 25:14

"The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him". Deut 29:29

" The secret things belong to the Lord"

Amos 3:7

"Surely the Lord does nothing without revealing to his servants "

* OMINIPRESENCE= He's everywhere at the same time, nothing is hidden from him.

We see Satan trying to counterfeit this character or attribute of God by the so called " All seeing eye of Horus.( the Illuminati one eye)

* OMINIPOTENT= God is all powerful, all powers belong to him, including the powers that the devil has now.

Everlasting= He lives forever, has no ending.

The Alpha and Omega= The beginning and the end. He created all things, and nothing was made without him, but he was not created.

Etc...

We can go on and on.

God asked Moses  to come to the Mount where he will declare his name to him.

And what was his name? his attributes.(character)

Slow to anger, love, kind, merciful etc...

Likewise us, our Character is our name.

If we are made in God's image and likeness that means we should also exhibit some of these characters.

Jesus Christ says that we should be perfect just like his father in heaven (Matthew 5:48)

be holy as ‘the Lord your God is holy’ (Leviticus 19.2).  This requires whole-life transformation. We are called to mirror the character of God, not merely to do or say the right things.

But we know it's impossible to be like God when we try on our own.

But with God all things are possible, he who has asked us to be like him shall he not grant us the means? Let's go to the book of Galatians 5:22-25

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ`s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Just before Jesus ascended into heaven he promised his disciples the Holy Spirit ( John 14:16-18)

And we saw the difference in the lives of the disciples when they received the Holy Spirit of God, those things that they couldn't do before they were able to do it, just because they have received his Spirit.: In this our fallen nature it is impossible for us to exhibit those characters of God, but with the Help of the Holy Spirit we can; that's why Jesus asked us to ask for the Holy Spirit Luke 11:13

Romans 6:6-10 if you are in Christ Jesus we are dead to sin.

: Anyone who is in Christ Jesus and has received the Holy Spirit must exhibit all these attributes to show that  the  Holy Spirit of God is in you.

We can see some of them here when God declared his name to Moses.

Exodus 34:6

And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, *merciful and gracious, *longsuffering* and abundant in *goodness* and *truth*

* For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.( Psalms 100:5)

 Psalm 86:5

"For You, Lord, are *good*, and ready to *forgive*, And abundant in *loving* *kindness* to all who call upon You( psalms 86:5) How many have we gotten now?

*The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.*( he's a God of Justice)

7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.

8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, *slow to anger*, and plenteous in *mercy*.

9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11 *For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him

( Here we see forgiveness and mercy too)

God brings down the proud and saves the *humble*. (Job 22:29)

The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.

5 Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,

6 Who *humbleth* himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth! ( Psalms 113:5-6)

This particular verse in the bible makes me Love God the more.

We only have a glimpse of how big, great, awesome and mighty God is, yet he is so humble, he humbles himself just to interact with us, the maker of the whole universe, how much more we, mere mortals, who are even lower than his angels who worship him day and night.

No wonder he abhors a proud man.

Don't forget,  pride is the sin that brought Lucifer down. Pride is a dangerous killer, and it comes in different forms.

Ask the Lord to open your eyes to the areas where you exalt pride in your life. Pride is one of the deadliest sins.

God is merciful are we?

No wonder God hates the the unmerciful.

We find that in the parable of the unmerciful servant. Matthew 18:21

And we see the punishment that awaits them.

* God is humble, how many times have we served with humility?

Jesus Christ himself who is God humbled himself to wash his disciples feet, how much more God, no wonder he hates the proud.

He says he who humbles himself will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.( Matthew 18:3)

* He is Love, he sent his only son to die for us.

Christ died for us while we were yet sinners.

How many times have we cared for the poor and needy amongst us?

* He is slow to anger, are we?

* his anger doesn't last for long.

How many of us  find it very easy to forgive those who have wronged us, or are we bearing grudges in our hearts?

* he is kind, are we?

*He is truthful, are we?

He is good, are we?

He  acts justly, do we? Or do we show favouritism?

These are many more questions we need to ask ourselves.

I pray that the Lord will make us to be more like him in Jesus mighty name.
